At Kilfinane OEC our Outdoor Education programmes offer more than just learning a new sport. Our programmes are designed to offer an optimal balance between fun, challenge, personal development and adventure.
Students are given the chance to discover new skills, challenged to work as a team and encouraged to develop social & life skills.
We offer residential programmes from 1-5 days, non-residential programmes and can also provide Outdoor Education modules to be included in your school curriculum.
Adventure Challenge – 5 Day Outdoor Education Programme
A five-day residential course focusing on skills development, team building & group development. Activities include Canoe/Kayak River Trip, Full Day Hillwalking, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Overnight Mountain Camp & Team Challenges.
Explorer Course
A four-day residential course with an emphasis on skills development leading to certification from a National Governing Body or Kilfinane OEC.
Multi- Activity Courses
Residential multi-activity courses offer the opportunity to try a range of sports and vary in length from 2- 5 days. Programmes can be adapted to suit the particular needs of each group.
GAISCE – The President’s Award
Kilfinane OEC is the ideal base for your Gaisce Hillwalking or Canoeing expedition and is an approved provider of Gaisce training & expeditions. Our experienced staff will guide students in the organisation of accommodation, meal times, clean up rosters, equipment issues and route planning. Supervision and safety back up is provided throughout the expedition by qualified instructors.
Curriculum based courses
Junior Certificate Science- Habitat Studies Module
This programme includes a half-day of fieldwork followed by a half-day class based analysis of findings. Lunch can be provided at the Centre if you wish.
Geo Hillwalk
New from 2008 our Geo Hillwalk brings the classroom outdoors. On a full day Hillwalk in the Galty mountains we explore glaciation, rock types and the formation of the Galty’s. This one day programme is aimed at Junior Cycle students.
Certified Courses
We offer a wide variety of courses certified by National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) of Sport or Kilfinane OEC. Some NGB qualifications are recognised as FETAC modules and are an ideal option for Transition year or LCA classes.
