On 30th November 2011 Kilfinane OEC in conjunction with Coillte organised a number of Rescue Training Exercises at the Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trails.
The rescue training exercises were very successful and are an important part of making Mountain Biking at the Ballyhoura Trails safer & emergency responses more effective. The exercises on the day included evacuating an injured casualty and a 'search and locate' for a lost biker.
The exercises were attended by Kilfinane OEC & Coillte Staff, local Gardaí, Kilmallock Fire & Rescue, Trailriders bike hire staff, Ballyhoura Bike Hire staff, South Eastern Mountain Rescue (SEMRA) & Search & Rescue Dogs Assosciation (SARDA) members. A special thanks to the volunteers members of SEMRA and SARDA and to SEMRA for co-ordinating the evening exercise and sharing their expertise in search methods.
A number of practical outcomes will be put into place following the exercise but remember if you are going biking make sure you are aware of and follow the basic safety precautions. More information is available at the safety sign at the start of the trails.
