Kilfinane OEC is delighted to announce the launch of the Ballyhoura Climbing Project
This project is being launched by a number of project partners to include Mountaineering Ireland, Kilfinane OEC, Co. Limerick Local Sports Partnership, Co. Cork Local Sports Partnership & South Tipperary Local Sports Partnership. The project is supported by the Irish Sports Council 'Women in Sport' programme.
The Ballyhoura Climbing Project will offer a series of introductory sessions to participants to introduce them to climbing at the Indoor Rockwall in Kilfinane OEC. The project also aims to develop a sustainable climbing club in the Ballyhoura region for youth & adults.
We are also looking for adult volunteers to help out with running the project and setting up the club. Climbing experience is not necessary as training will be provided.
ROCKCLIMBING AND INDOOR CLIMBING AT KILFINANE OEC
Rockclimbing is an excellent sport to develop fitness, strength and flexibility.
At Kilfinane OEC we provide climbing at all levels from Introductory Climbing sessions at our Indoor Rockwall to Single Pitch Award Training. Our Indoor Climbing Wall is located at Kilfinane OEC and is suitable for all abilities. Our Rockwall is designed to cater for all abilities and includes areas for Bouldering, Overhanging climbs and a number of roped climbs of varying difficulty.
Outdoor Climbing & Abseiling are based nearby at local crags. Abseiling involves descending a rock face using an abseil cable to lower yourself gradually while also attached to a safety rope. We are also within easy travelling distance of crags for those long Summer evenings of climbing and weekend trips to the Burren.
Our staff hold Single Pitch Award qualifications and we also provide Mountaineering Council of Ireland recognised training.
Indoor Climbing – Kilfinane OEC is home to a state of the art Indoor Climbing Wall newly constructed in 2009. The wall has a host of features and is designed to cater for climbers of all levels.

- Belay ledge for practising multi-pitch skills
- Inclined slab for beginner climbers
- Safety flooring throughout the climbing wall area
- Safety crash mats in bouldering area.
Our Rockwall is open to climbers of all levels including beginners. Experienced climbers need to complete a belay test before first use and there is a simple training session for complete beginners.
